We're seeking a dedicated volunteer Treasurer to join our board and help steward our finances. As a small nonprofit with a modest operating budget, our financial needs are straightforward — but the role is essential to keeping our mission moving forward. This is a meaningful opportunity to use your skills to directly support mental health awareness and advocacy in Tuscaloosa. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records of all income and expenses
  • Reconcile the bank account monthly
  • Prepare simple financial reports for monthly board meetings
  • Manage deposits, reimbursements, and bill payments
  • Manage memberships, including tracking new and renewing members and processing membership dues
  • Assist in preparing the annual budget
  • Ensure timely filing of required nonprofit financial paperwork (e.g., IRS Form 990-N postcard for small nonprofits)
  • Coordinate with NAMI Alabama and NAMI National on any required affiliate financial reporting

Qualifications

  • Comfort with basic bookkeeping and spreadsheets
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Trustworthy, dependable, and discreet
  • Prior treasurer, accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience is helpful but not required
  • Passion for mental health advocacy is a plus
